OnePlus 3T As A Daily Driver Review

So I was questioning myself whether i should get Google’s Pixel or the OnePlus 3T. After reading through all the specifications and all the internal back and forth in my mind, i decided to just save money and go with the OnePlus 3T with 128GB memory. And boy was i not disappointed.

Here’s the specifications:
CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 (Quad Core, Kryo: 2x 2.35GHz, 2×1.6Ghz)
GPU: Adreno 530
RAM: 6GB LPDDR4
Storage: 64GB / 128GB UFS 2.0
Battery: 3,400 mAh (non-removable) Dash Charge (5V, 4A)
Ports: USB 2.0 Type-C, Dual nano-SIM slot 3.5mm audio jack
Resolution: 1080p Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels), Corning Gorilla Glass 4
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, Positioning

Rear Camera: Sony IMX 298 Sensor 16 MP with OIS

Anyways, enough of technicalities, how is it when for every day use?

Bought the 128GB variation as my daily driver. Selling at about SGD 700+ from Lazada, which in my opinion, is a steal. It’s a beast of a phone for that price.

It’s fast. It’s snappy. It’s responsive. I don’t really feel any lag or sluggishness even after days of use. Has one of the fastest, if not the fastest, fingerprint scanner on any mobile phone. Google that.

Design. I was extremely surprised at the build quality of the OnePlus 3T when i  first unboxed it. It’s slim  with a slight camera bump, the quality of the material all screams premium. Definitely well designed.

Camera. Hey, I’m not a pro, don’t need professional quality photos but the shots are more than good enough. It’s not as fast as the Google Pixels or the Samsungs of the world but does it really matter for regular use? I don’t think so. Love it. Optical Image Stabilization helps a lot. I can’t seem to find the “night mode” though, which annoys me, though i probably haven’t tinkered with it enough.

Battery. Oh and the charging crazy fast that it’s almost impossible to believe. That’s when you do need to charge it. A single charge lasts about a day and a half on the default settings with regular use – Whatsapp, 3 email accounts syncing etc.

The 1080p screen. Personally for normal every day use, you wont even notice the lack of an ultra dense QuadHD / super high resolution screen. You’ll notice it only when you are comparing them side to side.  That choice for having normal HD screen actually does save on battery life as you won’t need more power to show off the crazy high resolution screens so i would think of it a a positive and not a negative.

With OOS 4.0.3 (based off Nougat 7.0.3), the OnePlus 3T really does reach its full potential. Definitely on par with the other flagships being sold by the big boys.

Never Settle is an apt line for this iteration of the OnePlus. Forget the overpriced Pixel which comes in at more than double the price for the same amount of storage (about SGD 1,600+). I say go get it for yourself. Can’t wait for OnePlus 5!

p.s. I’ve already have systemless root on my OnePlus. What’s that mean? Doesn’t break Android’s SafetyNet feature which means I still have full functionality like AndroidPay which is usually disabled.
